diagnosis: 

Irregularly branched plants with helically arranged leaves, bracts, and sporophylls; smaller leaves simple, larger leaves forked. Leaf cushions absent; bud scales absent; Endarch eustele with dense wood; leaves with two adaxial stomatiferous bands flanking inflated midrib; marginal and surficial trichomes present. Stomata longitudinally oriented, solitary or arranged in longitudinal rows; stomatal complexes with ring of angular papillate subsidiary cells, polar subsidiary cells elongated. Microsporangiate sporophylls with forked tip; prepollen monolete. Ovulate fructifications compact, growing through to form vegetative zone distally; ovules with rounded micropilar end.
